The personality is in the foreground - not the idea of punishment
Youth welfare in criminal proceedings is a service for young people and adolescents from 14 to 21 years of age. It becomes active whenever juveniles (14 to 18) or adolescents (18 to 21) have committed a criminal offence. The legal basis for youth welfare in criminal proceedings is the Juvenile Courts Act (JGG) and the Social Code, Book Eight (SGB VIII). The focus of the proceedings is on the personality of the young person and not on the idea of punishment. Youth welfare in criminal proceedings has a neutral assessment function. It is a legally prescribed task of the youth welfare office.
