Property tax return
The property tax declaration is necessary so that the cities and municipalities can determine the new assessment rates with the support of the state. As a local authority, the town of Beckum is urgently dependent on the income from property tax.
The deadline for submitting the property tax return was 31 January 2023. At the end of February, the tax offices began reminding owners who had not yet submitted their return to do so.
Reminded by mistake?
If you have already submitted your tax return but still received a reminder letter, please contact your local tax office. In many cases, the matter can be clarified quickly over the phone. For example, a transposed number may have been entered incorrectly, or the wrong file number may have been entered by mistake.

What you need to know to determine the property tax value and the further procedure:
- A property tax return must be submitted for every plot of land and every agricultural and forestry business. Properties are, for example
- undeveloped properties
- Residential properties (single-family house, two-family house, rental property, condominiums, such as the classic condominium)
- Non-residential properties (mixed-use properties, commercial properties, partial ownership, other developed properties)
- The deadline for submitting the declaration expired on 31 January 2023. However, it can still be submitted.
- At the end of February, the tax authorities began reminding owners who have not yet submitted their declaration to do so. If you think you have already submitted your declaration, please contact your tax office anyway.
- If the property tax return is still not submitted, the tax offices will estimate the tax bases. Even after an estimate by the tax office, there is still an obligation to submit the declaration.
- Until the end of the calendar year 2024, the municipalities will continue to calculate and levy property tax according to the previous legal situation. From 1 January 2025 , the newly determined property tax value will be decisive for the property tax to be paid to the cities and municipalities. This means that property tax payments must be made in accordance with the new law from 1 January 2025.
