Children experience the spirit of the stone cooler

The old stone cooler ghost stretches and stretches, rummages in his pockets, looks at his pocket watch and stares at the children. He is now haunting the town museum again, the stone cooler Karl Schwarenhorst, protagonist of the theatre play "The Ghost of the Stone Cooler".

Beckum's contemporary history at your fingertips
Pupils in the third grade (a total of 355 children in 14 classes) from Beckum's primary schools are currently experiencing the haunting Steinkühler in the city museum as part of the "Kulturstrolche" programme. Tobias Winopall, as the fictitious Steinkühler, gives the children an exciting insight into a piece of Beckum's contemporary history and takes them back to the beginnings of the Beckum cement industry. The actor devised the play together with Kati Peterleweling 10 years ago, and now he is once again taking on the role of the stone cooler himself.

"Karl Schwarenhorst" tells of his difficult life as a stone cooler and takes the children back in time in a vivid and entertaining way.

Cultural education at primary school
The town of Beckum has a comprehensive concept for cultural education with the aim of introducing children and young people to cultural topics and integrating them into the cultural life of the town. The "Kulturstrolche" project is a key component of cultural education. All children in Beckum's primary schools from Year 2 to Year 4 take part. Each school year, they deal with a specific cultural theme and get to know all the important cultural institutions in Beckum. There are 1,041 Kulturstrolche in the current school year.

"The Spirit of the Stone Cooler" in the town museum is financially supported by the Brotherhood of Beckum Builders' Servants.
