West pond to be upgraded
The Westteich pond is familiar to all Beckum residents and many visitors, as the water area located in the Westpark in connection with the neighbouring watermill shaped the end of the town in a south-westerly direction for centuries.
Water had to be pumped out
As a result of various remodelling measures in recent decades, the west pond is now a small area of water embedded in concrete. Due to the damaged pond bed, the water had to be pumped out a few years ago.
Now the wait is over: the construction work to renovate and upgrade the Westteich will start in July. To coincide with the 800th anniversary of the town, this historic site in Beckum is to be revitalised.
Attractive green space with a high quality of stay
The plan is to create an attractive green space in the heart of the city, a place where the people of Beckum like to spend time, relax and enjoy the view of the water.
Restrictions for cycle and pedestrian traffic possible
During the construction phase, there may be restrictions on sections of the surrounding cycle and pedestrian paths. A section of the pavement on Hammer Straße will be closed during the construction work.
Remove love locks now
The fence along the edge of the terrace will be dismantled as part of the project. Couples who have hung a lock on the fence have until the start of construction in July to remove it.
