75 years of the Basic Law

Banners commemorate the birthday of the Basic Law

On 23 May 1949, the Basic Law was proclaimed in a solemn session of the Parliamentary Council. After the turmoil of the war years and the dictatorship of the National Socialists, the fathers and mothers of the Basic Law laid the foundations for a federal and democratic state based on the values of the Christian concept of humanity with this "beacon of freedom".

The inviolable dignity of the human being, which is supported by the free and democratic basic order of our state, stands above all else. "The state - that's all of us, and we all live and work in our towns and communities," say the mayors in the district of Warendorf, who have agreed on a joint campaign.

On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of our Basic Law, the municipal family in the district of Warendorf is therefore committed to human dignity and the free democratic basic order of our state and is doing everything in its power to preserve it. And so, to mark the anniversary, banners in Beckum and Neubeckum also emphasise the importance of the Basic Law.

Especially now - 75 years after the promulgation of the Basic Law - it is important that Germany, as part of a united Europe, remains a diverse, colourful and democratic country in the future, according to the mayors in the district of Warendorf. "We will orientate our actions accordingly," the joint declaration states.
