Free flower seeds
"Warendorf mix" makes gardens blossom
For the fifth year in a row, the district of Warendorf, together with the town of Beckum, is helping citizens to make their neighbourhood buzz and bloom by distributing flower seeds free of charge.
The "Warendorf mixture" is a specially developed seed mixture designed in collaboration with the NABU Nature Conservation Centre Münsterland for both gardens and inner-city areas.
District Administrator Dr Olaf Gericke emphasises: "Even with a small flowering area in the garden, everyone can make a valuable contribution to biodiversity and enjoy a friendly and colourful sight in summer."
Daniela Puppe, Head of the Lower Nature Conservation Authority in the district of Warendorf, explains: "The small seed bags contain a particularly insect-friendly and flower-rich seed mixture with exclusively native species such as corn poppy, cornflower, wild carrot and the blue-purple flowering bellflower, which is an important pollen supplier for our wild bees."
"The mixture of annual, biennial and perennial species ensures that valuable structures for insects are created over many years with appropriate care," adds Martin Terwey, Head of the Office for Planning and Nature Conservation at the District of Warendorf.
Pick up and sow now
From now on, interested parties can pick up a maximum of two seed bags per household from the citizens' offices in Beckum and Neubeckum, while stocks last! Instructions on sowing and care can be handed out or viewed on the Warendorf district website for the sake of the environment.
Enquiries for larger quantities, for example from clubs, schools or day-care centres, can be made directly to Silke Stöppel, stöppel.s@beckum.de, or Max Hegemann, hegemann@beckum.de.
