New parasols on the market square

Since its opening as part of the Winzerfest 2022, the redesigned market square has proven its worth as a barrier-free event space not only for the weekly market days, but also for the various major events such as the Pütt days, the summer carnival and the Christmas market.

In future, eight red parasols will adorn the versatile square, thanks to the "Sustainable inner cities and centres" construction funding programme of the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development. And thanks to the local catering trade:

"In the context of our plans for a standardised shading and green concept, we have spoken to the neighbouring restaurant operators in recent months. They have offered us support with the implementation, which we are very pleased about," reports Uwe Denkert, Head of Urban Development at the City of Beckum.

Till Cöster and Maurice Asrawi (Roll'n Cone ice cream parlour) and Michael Sieding (Pütt) will take care of the reliable erection and dismantling of the umbrellas so that the weekly market can also run without restrictions on Wednesdays and Saturdays. After the ice saints in May, mobile green elements will be added. These are equipped with bee-friendly plants and can be moved flexibly when the areas are needed for the market or events.
