Focus on event areas: programme in the Pulort district

RUMMELskedi - a fair of historical superlatives

The people of Beckum are looking forward to the big anniversary weekend from 7 to 9 June. With the RUMMELskedi, Speckmannsgasse, Bergstraße and parts of Roggenmarkt, Pulort and Nordwall will be transformed into a historical funfair on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with the help of the Filou e.V. cultural initiative.

The historically authentic funfair operators proudly present their Westphalian historical superlatives on the festival weekend. They amaze visitors to the fair with the highest density of distilleries, the most craft guilds, the largest carnival parade, the oldest private brewery and the oldest Heischegang. They break the boundaries of Westphalia when they set a worldwide superlative with the number of their cement works from 1872 as the largest cement production location. And they hold their heads high with their "Beckumer Anschlägen" (Beckum attacks) to the pointed side blows from the local neighbourhood that make them the only "Schilda" town in Westphalia.

At the RUMMELSkedi there are shows, cabinets of curiosities or peep boxes and even historical carousels. The Beckum curiosities are presented several times a day as cabinet and theatre plays on the fairground stage. Panoptics, illusions and puppet theatre line the route of the fairground visitors, and acrobatic wonders are presented on the pavement. The fairground events invite visitors to look and marvel, listen and wonder, touch and join in.

Behind most of the figures are members of the Filou cultural initiative. The buildings were created by hard-working Filou volunteers. But various Beckum choirs and musicians also take on one role or another. The artistic concept was created by Kati Peterleweling and Meike Wiemann.

All information about the programme in the 8 event areas can be found in the flyer, in the soon to be published detailed programme booklet and at www.beckum800.de.
