City anniversary 2024

Beckum treasures wanted for anniversary magazine

You don't turn 800 every day. That's why the city of Beckum has called on all residents to participate in the city's big birthday with small and big ideas and to celebrate together.

50 typical town things wanted
For the anniversary year 2024, the Heimat- und Geschichtsverein Beckum e. V. has come up with something very special: "Together with the Stadtmarketing Beckum, the Heimatverein is developing an easy-to-read anniversary magazine in which 50 "town things" will guide us entertainingly through the 800-year history of the city," reports historian Ingo Löppenberg. As a member of the board of the Heimatverein, he thought about the new format together with the chairman Stefan Wittenbrink and Beckum's city marketing. "The magazine is to comprise a good 100 pages and be richly illustrated with pictures of the 'town things', which will be reinterpreted photographically," explains the head of town marketing Marianne Witt-Stuhr. In addition to the local history collection of the Heimat- und Geschichtsverein, the Stadtmuseum with its extensive collection of Beckum treasures is a central point of contact here. The director of the town museum, Dr. Martin Gesing, supports the project with his expertise on Beckum's history.

The anniversary magazine will be published shortly before the anniversary weekend in May 2024 and will be distributed to all interested parties in return for a small donation for local cultural preservation. "The special thing about the project is that all Beckum residents can submit suggestions as to which items should be included," emphasises Löppenberg. These can also include pictures, documents and buildings. "Who else might have a special treasure in their cellar that has a connection to Beckum?" he asks. Volunteer authors are also being sought who would like to describe these objects in a readable and vivid way. Anyone can and may take part. Beckum residents have until 30 June 2023 to apply as authors and/or with city objects. Simply send an email to: ingoloeppenberg2009@web.de.
