Sowing eye-catchers and attracting insects

Flowers are not only beautiful to look at, they also provide insects with an important basis for life. This is why the district of Warendorf is once again distributing flower bags with the "Warendorf mixture" for the garden. The town of Beckum distributes the sachets with the seed mixture to interested Beckum residents.

Contribution against insect mortality
The "Warendorf mixture" was developed in collaboration with the NABU nature conservation centre in Münsterland for use in gardens and inner-city areas. The seed bags are intended to support the creation of flower beds and thus contribute to the fight against insect mortality. The mixture is not suitable for sowing in the open countryside.

The mixture with corn poppy, cornflower, bellflower or wild carrot is a suitable food source for native species. In addition to the enormous benefits for biodiversity, the flowers are of course also an eye-catcher in gardens during the summer months. The "Warendorf mixture" consists of a flower-rich mixture of annual, biennial and perennial species. The mixture has been put together in such a way that, with appropriate care, it will provide valuable structures for insects for many years. Annual replanting is not necessary.

Where can you get the sachets?
In Beckum, the sachets are distributed free of charge at Beckum and Neubeckum town halls. Two sachets are available per household while stocks last. Instructions for sowing and care are provided.

Requests for larger quantities, for example from clubs, schools or day-care centres, can be sent directly to the Warendorf district at bluehmischung@kreis-warendorf.de.
