Sympathy for the earthquake victims
The devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria has also had a huge impact on the people of Beckum. There has already been a wave of willingness to help. People living here with Turkish or Syrian roots are worried about their relatives who were hit by severe earth tremors on the night of 6 February.
"Our thoughts are with the victims and bereaved families of this devastating disaster. The images are shocking and trigger an urgent need to help among many people in Beckum," says Mayor Michael Gerdhenrich. He is therefore asking for donations in favour of the major aid organisations.
On behalf of 23 German aid organisations, "Bündnis Entwicklung hilft" and "Aktion Deutschland hilft" are jointly calling for help for people in Turkey and Syria with the following account:
