Europe as a guest at the Beckum carnival
Guests from the 3 twin towns join in the celebrations
Under the carnival motto "800 years a foolish fairy tale", the visitors enthusiastically celebrated the start of the anniversary year. This year, ten French firefighters, the music band from Grodków and a delegation from the Ahlbeck Carnival Club joined the delegations. After the handover of the keys on Beckum's market square and the "foolish application" in the VHS, the town of Beckum invited guests to the canteen of the Albertus Magnus Grammar School on Sunday evening, which was decorated in particularly festive gold tones by the team from the cultural office.
"The spark is quickly ignited, because the guests from the twin towns are very familiar with carnival," says department head Cornelia Baumann.
Numerous Beckum association members took the opportunity to meet up again. In addition to the colourfully costumed guests from the twin towns, Mayor Michael Gerdhenrich and Ulrich Roggenkamp, Chairman of the Beckum Town Twinning Association, also welcomed a delegation from the Beckum umbrella organisation with the town prince. The evening's programme was also enriched by musical contributions from the Grodków band and the Beckum music group Bonsai.
At 11:11 a.m. on Rose Monday, the guests from the twin towns once again met up with their friends from the town twinnings to enjoy the Rose Monday parade from the VIP grandstand. "Carnival days in Beckum are colourful and full of music. The whole town seems to be upside down and you tend to get to know people on the basis of a positive atmosphere. Our guests from the twin towns are right in the middle of the action and they feel like they belong," says the team from the cultural office, which once again accompanied the guests this year together with the town twinning association.
In an exuberant carnival atmosphere, the colourful company danced and celebrated together into the night and was delighted to welcome two birthday children from France and Poland. The birthday serenade was sung in French, German, Polish and English.
