Disposal fund project by Verve!

Models of the district furniture move on to the leisure centre

For a few months, the students' models were on display in the Verve e. V. neighbourhood living room, and now they can be admired for the next few weeks in the Neubeckum leisure centre. Anyone interested is invited to come and see, touch and try them out.

"Great project. We are looking forward to its realisation in Neubeckum!", agree Rainer Friedmann and Thomas Dreier from the Neubeckum trade association and Ralf Böckenholt from Volksbank Neubeckum.

They had come to the move to inspect the furniture and find out about the next steps from the Neubeckum town centre management team:

Stool made from the letter K
The highlight of the "Typositz": Stools made of letters form the word Neubeckum.

The winning design "Typositz" - the Neubeckum lettering in stools - by Laura Stulgyte and Muhittin Cetinel is currently being adapted to make it more suitable for outdoor use. There are plans to place the stools on the town hall square.

The portable bench "newbie" by Leander Fuchs can be set up by interested associations, tradespeople and institutions. The city centre management would like to initiate a disposal fund application for the purchase, which could cover 50 percent of the costs.

Bank newbie under info poster
The Newbie bench (shown here under the project information poster) also invites you to linger in the leisure centre.

The third square, the design of a car park with parklet furniture, is to be continued in a few months' time when the so-called city terraces have made a stop in Neubeckum. This is rental furniture from the "Future Mobility Network NRW", which follows the same concept. To this end, some car parks on the main street are to be converted into places to stay for three months in order to stimulate discussion about the future design of the street.

Anyone who visits the neighbourhood furniture in the leisure centre can give feedback on the models using the questionnaires on display.

Disposal fund project
The student competition was financed by the Neubeckum Disposal Fund. The idea, project application and 50 per cent of the own contribution came from Verve! with strong support from Sparkasse Beckum-Wadersloh. The competition was realised as part of the Eco-Design Seminar of the Design Department at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts, led by Geert Schüttler. The students had the task of designing street furniture for Neubeckum town centre. This was to be diverse, attractive, identity-creating and communicative as well as suitable for outdoor use.

Serena Große-Kreul and Annika Siebert from Neubeckum town centre management are looking forward to receiving further project ideas for the Neubeckum town centre disposal fund. Prerequisite: The measure must contribute to the beautification of the town centre. The projects are subsidised with up to 50 percent and a maximum of 6,000 euros.
