City takes over Renfert site
New fire station building in Beckum can be developed
This means that an important urban development project for the city of Beckum can now begin realisation. This week, the purchase agreement between the previous owner "Wohnen am Hasetor" GmbH & Co. KG and the city of Beckum was signed in a notary's office this week.
The new Beckum fire and rescue station is to be built on the 51,000 square metre site. Later, inner-city residential development could also be built there. There are residential buildings and commercial properties on the edge of the site.
"The construction of the new fire and rescue station is of outstanding importance for the town of Beckum. We have reached a first milestone with the acquisition of the site. Now we are prioritising this major project step by step," said Mayor Michael Gerdhenrich at the notary appointment. Preparations for the urban land-use planning and building construction planning are to start in parallel this year.
In September last year, Beckum town council decided on a development model with NRW.Urban for the further process, which will be launched at the same time. The subsidiary for urban development of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and numerous municipalities - including Beckum - will handle the entire purchase and site development process on behalf of the city of Beckum. The finances are handled as separate assets via a trust account. Decisions on the financing of the new fire and rescue station have yet to be made.
The Renfert site extends over several parcels of land, some of which are built on. The Renfert family operated a cement works on the site from 1913 to 1971. The plant was demolished in 1994 and the quarry was filled in.
