Anniversary concert on 7 April at the municipal theatre
Violinist Albrecht Menzel as guest at the 400th chamber concert
The anniversary concert will take place on 7 April at 5 pm. The venue is exceptionally the Beckum City Theatre on Lippweg.
Together with the musicians of the Detmold Chamber Orchestra, Menzel will present a very special musical experience. He will be bringing along a genuine Stradivarius - known as the Lady Hallè - dating from 1709. The precious instrument comes from the workshop of the famous Italian violin maker Antonio Stradivari and is on loan from the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben Hamburg.
The musical programme of the 400th chamber concert presents well-known classics such as Beethoven's "Kreutzer Sonata" and takes guests on a musical journey through time at the Stadttheater. The evening's programme also includes works by Edward Elgar (Serenade for Strings in E minor op) and Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in D minor. It is Mendelssohn's first violin concerto, composed at the age of 13.
Albrecht Menzel not only performs as a soloist in the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, but also at the invitation of Anne-Sophie Mutter at the world's famous concert halls. He learnt to play the violin at the age of four. At the age of 13, he made his debut as a soloist at the Dresden Music Festival. He won first prize at the Trondheim Competition, the Audience Prize in Melbourne and the Dorothy MacKenzie Award in New York. His concerts have taken him to some of the world's greatest venues: the Berlin Philharmonie, Salle Pleyel in Paris, Cité de la Musique, Amsterdam Muziekgebouw, Teatro Colón, Argentina and Topan Hall.
The Detmold Chamber Orchestra is characterised by its infectious joy in making music and its lively approach to concert tradition. It is made up of international students and young graduates of the Detmold University of Music. Concert recordings are regularly broadcast on the radio.
The concert was originally planned to mark the 800th anniversary of the town of Beckum in January, but had to be postponed due to illness.
