Albrecht Menzel inspires at "Music in the Old Rectory"

Exclusive violin meeting offers enjoyment at the highest level

Albrecht Menzel opened the concert evening with a masterpiece of Baroque music, the Sonata No. 1 in G minor by Johann Sebastian Bach. This sonata is still one of the most difficult pieces for violin today. Johann Sebastian Bach himself is said to have practised the perfect presentation of the sonata until the end of his life. With the sonata for solo violin by Eugen Ysaye, Albrecht Menzel succeeded in building a bridge to the 19th and 20th centuries. It is a milestone in violin literature.

After the interval, Menzel shone with the piece "The last rose" by Heinrich Wilhelm Ernst. The piece is based on the Irish folk song "The last rose of summer". The composition is characterised by the spirit of Romanticism. The official concert programme concluded with three caprices by Niccolo Paganini, the leading and most famous violinist of his time.

Albrecht Menzel proved to be not only an excellent violinist, but also an entertaining presenter. The concert evening was rounded off with anecdotes from the violin world, explanations of the individual pieces on the programme and a musical comparison of the three violins from three centuries, which the artist brought to life.

Albrecht Menzel's multi-faceted, grandiose playing gave the audience musical pleasure at the highest level.
