Musical journey around the world
Alma Trio thrilled in Vellern
Instead of the classic trio line-up of piano, violin and cello, Mabel Rodriguez, Mar Valor and Álvaro Banón surprised the audience with piano, viola and saxophone. But it wasn't just the line-up that was unusual: the interpretation of the selected pieces also showed a love of experimentation that was definitely worth listening to.
With temperament and passion, the journey first led to America. Russell Peterson's Trio for Saxophone, Viola and Piano got the concert evening off to a jazzy start. The Schilflieder by August Klughardt, a German composer, were melancholy and lyrical. The classical-romantic pieces by Max Bruch rounded off the first part of the concert evening.
After the interval, the musical journey led to South America and Spain with works by Manuel de Falla, Maurice Ravel, Isaac Albéniz and Astor Piazzolla. Tango rhythms alternated with sounds that were partly reminiscent of Spanish folk music.
The Alma Trio, who impressed the audience not only with their musical skills but also with their wit and charm, were bid farewell by the audience with an encore and a standing ovation.
