Disposal fund project by Verve!
Newbie benches enrich Neubeckum
Serena Große-Kreul and Annika Siebert from Neubeckum town centre management delivered the benches together with Helga Grothues and Helena Wala from the town of Beckum. There was great enthusiasm among the recipients of the beautiful seating.
"They turned out really great!" Amanda Bailey was delighted. Sabine Will from the Neubeckum leisure centre is also delighted: "We've been waiting for it, we can use the bench flexibly!"

The benches were designed for Neubeckum by Leander Fuchs, a design student at the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts, as part of a project funded by the city's urban renewal fund. Newbie stands for Neubeckum. The Beckum joinery Heinz Holtmann GmbH & Co. KG realised the design. The benches were supplied by Verve! Schwung für Neubeckum e. V. and have become a real network project in and for Neubeckum. Many associations and institutions have expressed their interest in such a beautiful and portable bench. Volksbank im Münsterland eG made a donation so that all interested parties could receive a bench. There was also a 50 per cent subsidy from the town of Beckum and urban development funding from the Neubeckum town centre development fund.
Around midday, everyone involved came together once again to celebrate the successful realisation of the project, and Mayor Michael Gerdhenrich also came to try out the benches. In bright sunshine, everyone exchanged their experiences and shared their joy about the successful benches.
The benches can now be found at the following locations: at the Protestant kindergarten Arche Noah, at the DRK day care centre Schatzinsel, at the day care centre Die Grashüpfer e. V., at the Neubeckum leisure centre, at the Catholic parish of St. Franziskus, at the Adler pharmacy (run by the Neubeckum trade association) and at Verve! itself.
In bad weather, the flexible benches can be quickly carried inside. Particularly practical: some benches are equipped with castors, making them even easier to transport.
The two city centre managers were delighted: "It's great that this idea has been developed further and could now be put into practice." And the project has even helped designer Leander Fuchs to get a job: In his application to Schauspielhaus Bochum, he was able to score points with the construction and material plans created for the newbie bench and thus secure a position as a student assistant in the construction department.
The newbie benches have given Neubeckum even more of its own charm - a great example of how creative ideas from the development fund can lead to visible improvements, say those involved unanimously.
Serena Große-Kreul and Annika Siebert from Neubeckum town centre management are looking forward to receiving further project ideas for the Neubeckum town centre disposal fund. Prerequisite: The measure must contribute to the beautification of the town centre. The projects are subsidised with up to 50 percent and a maximum of 6,000 euros.
