Register now for the Easter bonfire

In the past, fire brigade operations have repeatedly occurred in the city area that could have been avoided with prior notification and appropriate counselling.

Registration is free of charge and should be made by 16 April at the latest, in person or in writing to Stadt Beckum, Weststraße 46, 59269 Beckum, 02521 29-3206, humann@beckum.de.

The following safety regulations must be observed when burning an Easter bonfire:

  • Only untreated wood, tree and shrub cuttings and sawn timber may be burnt.
  • Under no circumstances may the fire be used to dispose of other waste such as bulky waste, plastic waste and similar materials.
  • Fire accelerants (e.g. petrol or oils) must not be used to ignite the fire.
  • Neighbouring residents must not be disturbed by smoke and noise. The following safety distances must be maintained: 50 metres from buildings intended for human habitation, 25 metres from other structures, 50 metres from public traffic areas, 10 metres from paved farm tracks and 100 metres from the edge of the forest.
  • Prevent the fire from spreading or flying sparks. For this reason, a fire must be extinguished immediately in the event of strong winds.
  • Hedgehogs, insects and birds quickly feel at home in the piles of fuel. In order not to endanger these animals, the pile should only be stacked shortly before burning. If necessary, the pile must be rearranged on the day of burning.
  • The Easter bonfire must be supervised by at least two people at all times (one person must be over 18 years of age). The supervisors may only leave the burning area once the fire and embers have been extinguished.

Easter bonfires put a strain on people and animals
However, even if all these tips are taken into account, the numerous Easter bonfires put a noticeable strain on people and nature. If you would therefore like to do without an Easter bonfire, the town of Beckum offers various options for the ecological disposal of tree and shrub cuttings. More information can be found in the City of Beckum's environmental calendar.
