Ageing in Beckum

Senior citizen planning reissued

What does Beckum need to look like so that older people can move around safely and easily? How can we ensure that the very elderly receive the best possible support? How can older people participate actively and independently in social life for as long as possible?

Beckum's senior citizens' planning programme focuses on these and many other issues in order to work with senior citizens to achieve targeted improvements for a self-determined, happy life. After all, around a third of Beckum's population is over 60 years old.

The planning for the years 2025 to 2029 has now been finalised. After an eight-month planning process, the city's senior citizens' representative Karina Benjilany and social planner Hanna Giesen presented the results to the Committee for Inclusion, Equality, Social Affairs, Housing and Volunteering.

Old hands

The planning is based on 120 guided interviews with older Beckum residents and an analysis of existing services. From this, 6 key areas of work were developed in which improvements are sought and measures implemented: Mobility, neighbourhood cohesion, volunteering in old age, health-promoting environment, coping with the loss of loved ones, measures to combat isolation in old age.

Since 2007, the senior citizens' plan has been drawn up in cooperation with the Beckum senior citizens' policy working group. Among other things, it focuses on the endeavour to bundle information for senior citizens and make it more accessible.

The senior citizens section on this homepage(www.beckum.de/senioren) has been revised and offers a comprehensive overview of topics such as counselling and care, ways out of loneliness, digital knowledge and much more. There are also 2 current information brochures for senior citizens available for download: a calendar of events with leisure activities for people aged 60 and over (published every six months) and a senior citizens' guide with contact points and information on ageing in Beckum. Both are also available as printed brochures from the town of Beckum and other public distribution points.
