Last Saturday and the week before, many eager Beckum residents once again cleared the green spaces of carelessly discarded rubbish.

This year, a particularly large number of people signed up for the spring clean, taking tongs, gloves and bags to the green spaces and picking up the rubbish. Schools, daycare centres and the children's fire brigade also took part in the campaign the week before. This year's rubbish collection was supported by "Wir für Roland", "VERVE" and the Vellern local history association, which collected rubbish in the districts of Roland, Neubeckum and Vellern.

A total of almost 6 cubic metres of rubbish was collected this year. This included, for example, a communion dress, an exhaust pipe, a fire hose and, unfortunately, a conspicuous number of vodka bottles in the vicinity of the Martinschule.

In addition, the ECOWEST waste disposal centre in Ennigerloh offered guided tours for schools and loaned environmental cases to nurseries and primary schools. The ECOWEST environmental education mobile was parked at a different school each day and was so well received that follow-up appointments have already been arranged.
