Waste separation
3 further locations for glass containers
Since the beginning of the week there are two more possibilities to dispose of used glass in Beckum. Two containers each for white and coloured glass are now available at the "Nordwall" car park and on the parking strip of the street "Am Lippbach". From the beginning of October, another location will be added, the car park at the Eichendorff gymnasium.
Other glass containers are located on the streets Martinsring, Grevenbrede (Kaufland), Auf dem Tigge (Recyclinghof), Vorhelmer Straße (K+K Markt), Hindenburgplatz, Herzfelder Straße (Haus Pöpsel), Unterberg II (Hotel Zur Windmühle), Hauptstraße (STAR petrol station), car park at the corner of Industriestraße/Kaiser-Wilhelmstraße, Haselnussweg (Aldi supermarket), Augustastraße and in the car park on Dorfstraße.
Since glass containers are repeatedly filled incorrectly, the Environment and Greenery Department once again points out what can be disposed of in the containers.
What belongs in it:
Glass containers include glass packaging for food, such as bottles and jars, as well as pharmaceutical and cosmetic glass containers such as medicine bottles and cream jars.
Before placing them in the container, the glass packaging should be emptied at home. Rinsing is not necessary.
The lids belong in the yellow bin. If this is forgotten, the lid can be thrown into the glass container. Today's modern glass recycling plants can sort out caps so that they can then be recycled.
This is why colour separation is important:
Separation by colour is important in order to be able to make new glass packaging from the cullet. Glass packaging made of opal glass (milky white glass) should be disposed of in the white glass container. Blue bottles and container glasses in other colours belong in the stained glass container.
This does not belong in:
Drinking glasses and window glasses are not allowed in the glass container, they have a different glass composition. Porcelain, ceramics and earthenware also do not belong in the glass container. These materials are difficult to sort out from the waste glass and interfere with the recycling process. Some of them have a much higher melting point than glass packaging, so they cannot melt completely in the molten glass. As a result, residues can remain as inclusions in the glass and no new glass packaging can be made from it. Energy-saving lamps and any kind of illuminants are residual or even hazardous waste and do not belong in the glass container. And as important as it is simple: What does not fit through the opening of the used glass container does not belong in it either.
Do not deposit rubbish
Furthermore, the locations of glass containers are not rubbish disposal sites. It is prohibited to place other waste there, such as bulky waste, paint buckets, residual waste and the like.
Avoid noise
In addition, the deposit times printed on the containers apply, Monday to Saturday from 7 am to 8 pm. It is not permitted to deposit rubbish on Sundays and public holidays. Out of consideration for the residents, please do not throw in any glass during lunchtime.
