New culvert for the Hellbach
The Hellbach is being renaturalised. As part of this, the culvert under Kaiser-Wilhelm-Straße was renewed. With its new dimensions, it can drain a 100-year flood and allows animals to pass through unharmed. On 29 June, the culvert was installed in just 2 hours; the preparatory work had taken 3 days. The culvert is 12 metres long, 3.50 metres wide and has a total height of 1.85 metres. Asphalt work is now due to be carried out.
In further construction phases, the longitudinal and transverse profile of the watercourse will be designed in a near-natural way to ensure that it can absorb floods naturally. Existing crossings will be removed and two new field access roads built. In addition, measures will be taken to protect a high-pressure gas pipeline running through the planning area.
