Annoyance about dog excrement and unleashed dogs

Dog ownership rules

On this occasion, the Law and Order Department of the City of Beckum would like to point out once again: Contamination by dogs' waste on public paths and squares, especially on children's playgrounds or parks, is unhygienic and disgusting, and it makes it unpleasant for others to spend time outdoors. Unleashed dogs also cause problems in the city area.

For a harmonious coexistence of dog owners and everyone else, the following rules for dealing with dogs apply:

  • Dog owners are obliged to immediately clean up the mess caused by their dogs.
  • All dogs must be kept on a leash in traffic areas and facilities within built-up areas, regardless of the size of the dog. The leash requirement also applies to parks and green spaces.
  • Dogs generally have no business in children's playgrounds.
  • Outside built-up areas, dogs are allowed to run without a leash. However, the following also applies here: In forests outside the paths, the dog must be leashed. It should also be leashed as soon as other people feel threatened or harassed by the dog. After all, every dog owner is ultimately liable for his or her own dog.

Violation can be very expensive
Fines of up to 100,000 euros can be imposed for violations of the legal regulations.

In addition, each infringement is checked to see whether the dog has been registered for tax and whether a large dog is also registered as such. If the dog has not been properly registered, this is also an administrative offence punishable by a fine.

In order to avoid trouble and high fines, the city of Beckum therefore appeals to all dog owners to observe the above rules in the interest of the general public.
