Top acts are fixed
The big city anniversary is casting its shadow ahead: "In 2024, our hometown will celebrate a special birthday, the city of Beckum will be 800 years young. Preparations are already in full swing," emphasises Mayor Michael Gerdhenrich. "Because in the anniversary year Beckum will show itself from its best side. With committed local history projects and musical live acts, with art, culture and a jubilee weekend that will turn the town into an attractive festival mile for guests young and old."
Highlights on the anniversary weekend
Together with the new main sponsor of the town anniversary, Sparkasse Beckum-Wadersloh, he can now reveal the best-kept secret of the Pütt town. On the anniversary weekend from 7 to 9 June 2024, well-known bands will celebrate the 800th town birthday with numerous guests outside and for free. "On Friday, Stefanie Heinzmann, Jupiter Jones and Mrs. Greenbird will rock into the weekend at the Westenfeuermarkt. Saturday will be celebrated under the motto 'Summer, Sun, Rumskedi‛. Here the Cologne HÖHNER will make the stage at the Westenfeuermarkt shake with carnival spirit," says Jürgen Wenning, Chairman of the Board of Sparkasse Beckum-Wadersloh. Finally, Sunday is a day of traditions under the sign of voluntary work: together with the Beckum associations, a colourful programme for the whole family is planned. The day will start with an ecumenical service, followed by a procession of the clubs and guilds accompanied by local music bands to the Westenfeuermarkt. A picnic is then planned there.
41st Westphalian Hansa Day and town as a festival mile
In addition to the programme on the festival square, the 41st Westphalian Hansa Day is also expected to attract many guests to Beckum as a central event. Up to 47 Hanseatic towns will present themselves on the Hansa Mile in Oststraße with regional Hanseatic products. The local hotel and innkeepers' association has also been working for months to enrich the town's birthday with a culinary offer for the town's anniversary. On the Hanseatic stage on the market square there will be various musical highlights and a colourful family programme. In addition, a Future Mile on Rathausplatz, a gourmet and wine market on Hühlstraße and a Sustainability Mile on Nordstraße organised by local farmers are planned. The City Initiative is also involved: in addition to an open Sunday, the STADTGESTALTEN will be on the road as popular walking acts throughout the city centre. The 800th town birthday is being coordinated by the Beckum town marketing team, which is organising the big event together with numerous active members of the town community.
Activities and plans of the town society
"We are very happy about the active participation of the citizens," emphasises Marianne Witt-Stuhr, the head of the town marketing. "After all, we already got a first taste at this year's Hansa Day in Fürstenau, where Beckum's traditional associations were represented in large numbers."
The "Beckum800" event concept is intended to encourage active, cross-generational participation while showing the city from its colourful side. "We are thrilled by the large number of initiatives for the anniversary year. Small and large players, associations, companies, cultural workers and institutions, from day-care centres to schools and cultural institutions are currently involved. And we hope that there will be many more."
Local supporters wanted
There is a lot going on in 2024 not only in Beckum, but also in Neubeckum. After all, the district will also be celebrating a birthday next year, namely its 125th anniversary. The anniversary year should be a complete success. To achieve this, the city of Beckum is also counting on the support of local businesses. "The participation of local sponsors is very important in order to be able to realise the entire year with its many highlights," Mayor Michael Gerdhenrich knows. "I would therefore like to thank the Sparkasse Beckum-Wadersloh", which generously supports the anniversary for the city society."
Now more entrepreneurs are being sought to sponsor the city birthday with a donation. For the various sponsorship opportunities, the city marketing department has put together a special brochure with attractive offers. In addition, a supporter logo has been developed especially for the sponsors. The local business community is invited to join in, explains Marianne Witt-Stuhr: "As a sponsor of the 800th anniversary celebration, there are many ways to present yourself: The individual support packages start at 250 euros and are put together individually for the company. Donations or contributions in kind and advertising are also welcome. Show your special attachment to the city and region, we look forward to seeing you!"
