Pupils from the Astrid Lindgren School find out more at the town hall

The first stop on their excursion to the town hall was Mayor Michael Gerdhenrich. In his office, the pupils from Years 6, 7 and 8 learnt how he became mayor, what duties a mayor has and what all there is to do in the city administration. They learnt from the head of administration that over 500 people work for the city of Beckum in a wide variety of areas, for example in the city treasury, in green maintenance or in the sewage treatment plants. He also gave an insight into his packed diary.

The young people and their teachers then went to the citizens' office. Mareike Berkhoff and Lisett Rosario Ramos de Sonnenburg explained which services citizens can take care of here: Applying for ID cards, collecting lost property, registering a flat and much more. The pupils were quite astonished. The tour continued to the registry office, where the registrars Rita Ahlmer, Vahide Schütz and Cornelia Jürgens-Bohmert gave an insight into their work. Among other things, they explained the requirements for a marriage and listed the various wedding venues in the city.

There was a lot to learn at all 3 stations. The three classes definitely learnt one thing during their visit: the tasks in a town hall are exciting and varied.
