Volunteer guardians wanted

Many of these young people have fled to Germany without their parents and live in a residential group. Guardianship covers the decisions that would otherwise be made by parents. It's about health, school, finances and applying for educational support. But guardianship means much more: standing by the side of a child or young person, being reliable, providing support, having fun together and travelling a part of their life together. No special training or previous legal knowledge is required to take on a guardianship. The Warendorf District Child Protection Association prepares people specifically for this task and will be offering training and further support from the association's guardian Silke Reitkamp and volunteer coordinator Bernadette Wessels-Bremerich from mid-October 2024.

Training for those interested
The training will take place on 8 evenings from Tuesday, 22 October from 19:00 - 20:30 on a weekly basis. The first meeting, which takes place in the premises of the Child Protection Association at Bahnhofsplatz 1 in Ahlen, serves as an information and familiarisation evening. Only afterwards do those interested decide whether they want to take part in the training. By arrangement, the training evenings can take place alternately in Warendorf and Ahlen.

Interested?
Are you willing to invest time, take responsibility for a young person and build a trusting relationship with them? Or would you like to get involved with children in another way? Would you like to support primary school children as a reading mentor? Or take over the lending desk in the school library? Or do handicrafts, dance or play with children?
