Beckum in 2nd place in the district-wide city cycling competition

26 prizes were raffled off among the cyclists, provided by Beckumer Fahrradlager, Elektro Pelkmann, Energieversorgung Beckum and Sparkasse Beckum-Wadersloh. Some of the winners received their water bottles, city vouchers, inspection vouchers and bicycle bags at the town hall this week.

Special awards
This year, the youngest, most experienced and most hard-working participants were also honoured for the first time. At just four years old, Pauline Mix cycled a whole 12.9 kilometres in three weeks and 7-year-old Kai Grünert covered 10.4 kilometres. Gerda-Marie and Helmut Schäpers, aged 82 and 86 respectively, are the oldest participants and cycled around 400 kilometres. Sandra Sonnabend was the most diligent participant from Beckum. She cycled 1,969 kilometres over the three weeks, taking first place, followed by Jörg Lambke with 1,356 kilometres and Roland Thiedig with 1,201 kilometres.

Although all the cyclists from Beckum were unable to match last year's performance (186,195 kilometres), they still managed a successful second place in the Warendorf district.

With a total of 1.344 million kilometres cycled and 7,758 participants, the district of Warendorf is in 18th place in the NRW ranking.
