Citizens' bus trip to Wroclaw and Grodków
On Friday and Saturday, the trip centred on the Silesian metropolis of Wroclaw. The participants got to know many of Wroclaw's sights during a city tour. Highlights included a visit to the Centennial Hall, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Cathedral Island with Wroclaw Cathedral and its wonderful bridges, and a boat trip on the River Oder. There was also plenty of time to stroll through the streets of Wroclaw and explore the city on your own.
Sunday was all about the harvest festival in Grodków. After the traditional harvest festival service, Grodków's new mayor Milosz Krok welcomed the Beckum delegation to the marquee. Cornelia Baumann, Head of the Education, Culture and Leisure Department of the City of Beckum, and Ulli Roggenkamp from the town twinning association emphasised in their welcoming speeches how important the almost 30-year town twinning with Grodków is to Beckum.
Mayor Krok promised to continue to cultivate the town twinning and, of course, to accept the invitation from the city of Beckum to Beckum Carnival 2025. To the surprise of the Beckum guests, he remarked that he had already visited Beckum around 20 years ago for the carnival.
On the return journey on Monday, the Beckum delegation made a stopover in Görlitz and visited the picturesque border town.
