Police and town of Beckum urge caution

Ghost cyclists live dangerously

The freshly spray-painted symbols by Chief Superintendent Katharina Sikora and Chief Superintendent Carsten Bolte remind cyclists and e-scooter riders of the right-hand traffic regulations: If you are travelling on the left, you are in the wrong lane. This is not without danger. Cyclists travelling in the wrong lane are easily overlooked and suffer injuries in road accidents. This is particularly common at junctions and crossroads, as drivers do not expect cyclists travelling in the wrong direction.

The district police have sprayed the friendly but very clear ghost cyclist sign at several relevant locations in the Beckum urban area - now for the first time also in Neubeckum, especially in the area of Spiekersstraße and Vellerner Straße. The traffic accident prevention department of the district police will be happy to receive tips from citizens for other useful locations: verkehrsunfallpraevention.warendorf@polizei.nrw.de

The police will accompany the campaign with prevention work over the next few days. Mayor Michael Gerdhenrich and Elmar Liekenbröcker (Head of the Law, Security and Order Department) from the town of Beckum accompanied the campaign. Similar campaigns in recent years have been very successful.
