Delegation visits the Heringsdorf Imperial Days

Spa architecture, water and exciting stories

Mayor Laura Marisken and other municipal representatives welcomed the Beckum residents to the Heringsdorf brewery on Thursday evening.

On Friday, the programme included a tour of the island on the theme of water. After visiting an old salt hut, the group travelled to the pier in Koserow. The group travelled through the slightly hilly hinterland to the Peenestrom, which widens into the Achterwasser, and then through small villages, partly over cobblestones, to Dargen, where the delegation enjoyed a wide view over the grassland to the Little Lagoon in the south of the island. The tour was a great experience, not least thanks to the experienced Pomeranian tour guide Bärbel Finn. She told many stories about the island, from its history to the present day, with all kinds of amusing and thought-provoking anecdotes.

In the evening, the group met members of the town twinning association and its chairman Klaus Kottwittenborg at Villa Irmgard. Mariusz Lokaj gave a guided tour of the villa, where Maxim Gorky once lived and worked, and presented a film from 1951 showing how people spent their holidays in Heringsdorf in those days. The barbecue and socialising that followed provided ample opportunity to refresh old friendships and plan new activities.

The highlight of the Imperial Days was once again the parade in historical costumes on Saturday. In glorious sunshine, the Beckum group and over 200 other participants followed the carriages with the Emperor and Empress, Mayoress Marisken and the Mayor of Beckum through the streets of Heringsdorf, which were lined with many onlookers. The day ended with a firework display on the beach and everyone agreed that there should be another reunion soon.
