Augmented reality tour

With Kater Murr through the city's history

The popular "Lauschtour", which has been offering an entertaining audio tour through the history of Beckum at your own pace for over 4 years, has been expanded in its anniversary year: a geo-based augmented reality tour.

Murr the tomcat as city guide
In the technical extension, the virtual mascot "Murr the tomcat" guides guests young and old to the sights of the city of Beckum and brings the city's history to life, from the Middle Ages to traditions such as carnival and the importance of the cement industry in modern times. "We are giving our guests a special gift in this anniversary year. I would like to thank everyone who has contributed," explained Mayor Michael Gerdhenrich at the launch of the new app.

From left to right: Berenice Terwey, Bernd Terwey (both AVK Terwey), Mayor Michael Gerdhenrich, Ingo Löppenberg (Heimat- und Geschichtsverein Beckum), Sabrina Schrage (Stadtmarketing), Carola Paulmichl (Öffentliche Bücherei Beckum), Silvia Brede (Stadtmuseum) and Pascal Rückert (Stadtmarketing) present the new app with the accompanying brochure.

Children from Beckum took part and enriched the app with gripping and imaginative stories. "The children were enthusiastic about the project and wrote and read in really exciting stories," say Carola Paulmichl from the Beckum public library and Silvia Brede from the town museum in unison. And historian Ingo Löppenberg from the Beckum local history association has enriched the virtual information boards with all kinds of interesting facts. I think it's great that our town's history can be brought to life in this way, especially for younger people," says Löppenberg.

And this is how it works: Simply download the free "Beckum AR city tour" app, follow the instructions on how to use the app and start at the first station at the city model on St Stephanus church square. If you turn round in a circle, you will soon come across the virtual black cat, who shows you the way to the 11 stations. He runs ahead at the right pace. Once he has reached his destination, he quickly turns round on his own axis. Then it's worth taking a look around the destination. Because there are texts, audios and videos about the Beckum attractions to discover. And whoever catches the strawberry mouse gets a point. Of course, you can also take your own souvenir photos of the highlights, but beware: the hangover cheats its way into the picture. If individual destinations such as the Provost's Church, the defence tower or the town museum are closed, no problem: brilliant 360° interior shots are a great alternative.

The information flyer will soon be available everywhere.

Information in brief:

Like the "Lauschtour", the AR tour also leads to the most important sights, including of course the Prudentia Shrine - the most important gold shrine in Westphalia -, the Steinkühler monument and the dormitory.

The barrier-free tour is supported by an audio guide, lasts around 40 minutes and is 1.5 kilometres long. For children, there is a virtual hangover game and exciting stories written and recorded by young Beckum residents.

The educational and entertaining app was developed by the company AKV Terwey from Emsdetten for the city marketing of the city of Beckum.
