Colourful tunnel officially handed over

After two years of hard work and passionate commitment, the children and young people have transformed the gloomy railway tunnel between "Hauptstraße" and "Im Werl" in Neubeckum into a colourful, accessible work of art.

Last Friday, the tunnel in Neubeckum, designed with lots of colour and great motifs, was officially handed over. The young artists presented their art in public spaces to interested visitors. Thanks to the enthusiastic kids, what was once a dark and eerie tunnel has been transformed into an exciting connecting path, and there is plenty to discover on the detailed walls with motifs from nature and culture.

The young people involved sanded, primed, filled and finally painted the tunnel walls. Sketches became motifs, graffitied or bare walls became street art. And it is truly something to behold. An area of fear has become a walk-in work of art.

Many Neubeckum residents supported the team led by Gabi Mischke and followed the work with interest. At the handover ceremony, Sabine Will from the leisure centre team thanked everyone for their commitment, especially the young artists: "We are incredibly proud of the participants," she said, praising the young people who took part.

The project was funded by the Kulturrucksack NRW programme.
