NRW funding programme for sustainable inner cities and town centres
Funding decision for Beckum city centre
This funding programme is intended to strengthen city centres as multifunctional places for urban development and follows on from the "Immediate action programme to strengthen city centres and centres", which was set up specifically to meet the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic.
The city of Beckum can use a good 220,000 euros from the funding pot totalling 35 million euros for measures in Beckum's city centre until 2026. Unfortunately, due to the large number of applications received, Neubeckum town centre could not be included. For the Neubeckum district, the city is therefore continuing to focus on measures from the integrated urban development concept for Neubeckum town centre (ISEK Neubeckum).
3 Funding priorities
One funding priority in Beckum is letting to start-ups or service providers with public access, promoting the marketing of regional products, cultural uses or educational and childcare services. New offers can then be subsidised by means of a reduced basic rent for a maximum period of 2 years if, at the same time, the owners of the property waive part of the basic rent. As with the immediate action programme, all parties involved should pull together. It is also possible to subsidise renovations or conversions associated with the rental.
In addition, the town of Beckum would like to work with a specialist office to take a closer look at the retail spaces, consider possible subsequent uses and develop measures to increase their attractiveness together with the town centre businesses.
The third funding area focuses on improving the quality of life in the city centre, in particular through intergenerational furniture and urban greenery elements or art in public spaces. The first projects for greening Weststrasse, upgrading the market square and Westpark have already been started and will be implemented in the near future. The "House and Courtyard Programme" for façade greening and unsealing will also be made possible from these funds next year.
