Eichendorffstraße becomes a cycle lane

This means that cars are also allowed to drive here, but priority is given to cyclists. The ^ISEK1 project contributes to a more attractive appearance and to improving the infrastructure for cycling. The measure was subsidised with 588,000 euros from the federal and state governments.

The junctions have been marked in red, and the entire 620 metre stretch of the road is marked with a broad line for better visibility. The road has been designated as a priority road and the previous right-before-left rule no longer applies. The asphalted carriageway is bordered by pavements along the entire length of the road. The carriageway width of 5.50 metres is reduced to 4 metres in several places.

The existing tree population has been preserved and is complemented by 23 additional trees (climate-resilient hop hornbeams) between Jahnstraße and "Am Volkspark". Parking was completely reorganised to reduce traffic conflicts. In addition to the carriageway, 78 paved parking spaces have been created. Tactile systems improve accessibility.

"The remodelled road is an all-round success," said Mayor Michael Gerdhenrich at the official opening.

Construction work began in mid-August 2023 and was carried out in 3 phases and completed in October 2024.

Costs and funding:
Total construction costs: around 2.8 million euros
Urban development funding: 588,000 euros

Funding is provided by the Ministry of Regional Identity, Communities and Local Government, Building and Digitalisation of North Rhine-Westphalia (312,000 euros) and the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Building (276,000 euros).

Calculated share of those liable to pay contributions for the road construction measure:
approx. 1.4 million euros (KAG ^funding2 from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia to relieve those liable to pay contributions for road improvement measures)
