Liebmann Trio in the old parsonage

Homage to Jewish composers

Together they are the Liebmann Trio and played mainly modern pieces from the 20th and 21st centuries, but also the Grand Trio in A major by Helene Liebmann, which the artist composed at the beginning of the 19th century. As a woman from a Jewish background, she was a unique phenomenon in her time. Her work is characterised by brilliant and elegant piano and chamber music.

Wistful, reflective sounds with a meditative character by the composer Ernest Bloch alternate with Paul Schoenfield's "Café Music", which is characterised by concise rhythms. Powerful traditional-classical melodies are interwoven with folkloristic elements that are particularly reminiscent of klezmer.

The history of the Jews, the hatred against them and the exodus became audible in Don Jaffé's Sonata No. 1 "Passionata", played by his son Ramon Jaffé. The sonata for violin by Roman Padlewski also reflected the suffering of the Jews in the Warsaw ghetto with expressive power. The mediation between jazz and classical music became clear in Erwin Schulhoff's "Kitten on the keys".

The Liebmann Trio captivated the audience with their uninhibited virtuosity and sensitive interpretation. The brilliantly performed compositions were surprising, inspiring and thought-provoking. A very special concert evening ended with an encore by the composer Paul Schoenfield.
