Beckum schools were honoured
Certificates for sustainable action
The Mayor's General Representative Thomas Wulf presented them to the representatives of the schools in a festive ceremony.
"The pupils have shown remarkable commitment and deeply rooted an awareness of energy- and resource-saving behaviour in order to protect our environment and climate in the long term," praised Wulf.
Among other things, the projects aimed to reduce CO2 emissions and energy consumption in schools and to impart knowledge about climate and environmental protection, resource conservation and energy saving.
The overall project was supported by Verena Zimara, a consultant from B.A.U.M. Consult in Hamm, and the City of Beckum's climate protection management team, who assisted the schools in developing and implementing ideas. The list of projects is as long as it is imaginative: among other things, the schools took part in city cycling, promoted climate-friendly mobility, introduced a healthy breakfast, saved paper, collected waste and addressed other aspects of the 17 global sustainability goals.
The schools' commitment pays off twice over: In addition to the conscious use of resources, the cash reward provides additional motivation for the realisation of further sustainable projects.
