Cookery courses

New kitchen for the VHS

After moving into the Antoniusschule building in 2011, the Beckum-Wadersloh Adult Education Centre took over the kitchen of the former secondary school, which has served it well to date: it has become a popular meeting place for cooks and cookery courses of all kinds: from international cuisine to cooking for children or finger food to vegetarian and fair food. Cookery courses on Italian cuisine are particularly popular. A total of 382 events with 2,052 participants have taken place since 2013. This year, 24 courses were held in the old kitchen.

Barrier-free workplace
Another new feature is the fully equipped kitchen workstation suitable for the disabled.

Such a high output has left its mark, which is why a completely new kitchen was installed that meets the requirements of a modern kitchen: In addition to modern hobs, energy-saving ovens and a contemporary microwave, it includes a steamer, for example for vegan cooking, as well as generous work surfaces. With five workstations, including a fully equipped workstation suitable for the disabled and a hygiene area, the VHS has paved the way for future home-cooked culinary delights in an innovative environment. The themed cookery courses can now start again; the VHS is looking forward to welcoming many interested amateur cooks.

Facts and figures:

There was particular interest in the topics: Mexican, Italian, slimming, Indian, fair cooking, Spanish, Turkish, finger food, vegetarian, cooking for children. Arabic and Chinese were also cooked there.

The kitchen was getting on in years due to the many signs of wear and tear. A renovation would no longer have been worthwhile. The costs for the new kitchen totalled 35,000 euros.
